Our Club Story
Our club is active in our community through various service projects, scholarships funded by fundraising, a podcast broadcast internationally, a women’s panel every year around topics of interest to women and girls, and by our networking with other organizations strategically to raise awareness of Zonta’s mission and collaborate throughout the community to make the world a better place for women and girls.
Our Activities
Our club participates in: Take Back the Night, various women’s marches, projects with Habitat for Humanity, collection of items for food banks and women’s shelters, and we also hold fundraisers in the community to fund scholarships. We meet monthly, with guest speakers who have impacted women’s issues or who can give us knowledge and information we need. We are currently looking at a film festival; we had done one previously with LunaFest, but are now researching a new provider. It was a very popular event.
Recent News
We awarded our Woman of Distinction award (to a woman outside of the club); we awarded our Woman of the Year (a member award given once a year to one woman - members cannot be nominated if they have already achieved this award); we held our fundraiser, marched in the freezing cold to show our support for women, and brought along men who spoke in support, we held regular podcast episodes focusing on women’s issues, and worked events such as a building project for Will County Habitat for Humanity.
Supporting the community
We are currently working on our events for the remainder of the calendar year.
- In September, our club will be awarded a “Distinguished Partners in Excellence” award from Joliet Junior College, the oldest junior college in the United States.
